Wendfish,

Initially I was interested in some other brands, but when I test drove the SF back to back with the CRV, VUE, and Trib, it pretty much sold itself. But - I lurked on this board for weeks trying to learn as much about the SF as I could, thinking there would be a "catch" to the SF bargain.

Reading the "Problems" section actually conviced me that the SF was the right vehicle. Most of the complaints seem to be somewhat isolated. A few seem to be something to "look out for" like the cshaft sensor or timing adjustment. BUT - when I wandered to the other boards for Escape/Trib and CRV... I realized that the SF complaints were relatively minor in comparison. Multiple posts regarding transmission failures, steering column problems, etc... AND - I did not find as many posts from so many owners that seemed overall happy about thier decision to purchase as I have with the SF.

I recommend test driving them back to back. Then, compare the prices with equal equipment and equal warranty (the others will have to extend warranty to match). Dollar for dollar the SF comes out on top.

You might also consider the "professional reviews"... I have a copy of the Auto World Magazine that did a head-to-head agains the Escape, the SF was selected best. Road and Track has a "First Drive" report on the SF available online to read, very positive. MSN Carpoint's Daniel Heraud also gave it a very favorable review.

I did not start out targeting a SF, but after looking at it, test driving multiple times, and reviewing the information - I decided that the SF was the right purchase.

What would I change? Increase the HP and spiff up the overhead console. What did I care more about? The extremely good safety rating by IIHS and the value.

Good luck in deciding!
