ok gang, here's my 2 cents:
what i know:
santa fe starts off as 60% front and 40% rear on dry pavement. i have looked all over the web and even hyundai agrees.... so one can assume that if you lift the front wheels off the ground, the truck would move while the tranny is in gear due to the rears getting torque. The 4x4 system on the truck kicks butt on sand (deep soft stuff), that is my only experience to date (mud too btw).
what i do not know:
how is the torque re-applied based on slippage? does it re-apply everytime a wheel starts slipping (makes sense)? what i mean is that if i take it out onto the beach, all 4 wheels will slip within a matter of seconds, is this bad for the truck? or will it wait for a certain amount of time before re-apllying after the first time? a 4x4 part time system (my 88 big bronco) always apllies torque 50/50 without any change due to slippage...my biggest concern is that something will get messed up due to the constant re-application of torque on the beach. what do you all think? i even thought at one time that once torque reaches 50/50 it locks until it hits hard pavement again, i think i had that idea come out of a dream (
). i have driven this truck (yes truck!) on the beaches of cape hatteras and it does great. I drove 5 miles straight between the "point" and frisco with no troubles at all. except for a clanking noise which turned out to be the driver's side skid plate banging against the crossmember whenever the sand was really deep and the sand pushed up onto that area, fix was to tighten that bolt.
