I also live in Adelaide and yes it is legal and you are right when u say it is just revenue raising because that is exactly what it is. These cars are everywhere, hiding behind roadside bushes, at the bottom of steep roads or anywhere they choose to park them and this includes places where it would normally be illegal to park e.g footpaths, driveways, no parking zones. These cars are not manned by qualified police officers just some sort of glorified traffic warden but employed by the police dept. to circumvent the laws. You tell me getting a fine thru the post 2 weeks after being caught by these cameras slows u down-i dont think so, it just pisses u off. I'm sure even TheVinman will agree that there is nothing like a face to face with a cop giving you a lecture on speeding has a more positive effect on driving habits than just a letter posted to you. It is getting so out of hand that local councils are even trying to get permission to use them. The pollies all harp on about reducing speed will reduce the road toll, currently about 110 so far in SA this year. And how much of this revenue goes into making roads safe? SF-all. The police also have the power to pull you over at random for blood alcohol tests, hell even local council officers have the power to enter your house to see if you have an unregistered dog. South Australia- "The Police State". (and no i haven't been caught recently-i'm just fundamentally opposed to this Stalinist practice) especially when u see Bris getting done for 63 in a 60 speed zone.
