I have tried a different radio and tried to give the radio a better ground. The problem persists. I own a 2003 model. What is involved in "attacking" the antenna in the rear glass?

No need to remove the moulding but you do need something to hold it away from the window. The connection which are 2 thin wires with crappy connectors are probably loose. Push them, tape the wires so they stay in and tight. That will get rid of the static and give you better reception on the AM band.

It was more a function of sometimes reception is good and sometimes it's so bad you have to shut the radio{AM anyways}. I have noticed that when the key is turned to "run" position{engine still off} reception gets a little noisier than "accessory" position. And, when interior dome lights are in the process of dimming, the radio picks up more static. ...educated guesses, dead on knowledge appreciated

I could not go close to overhead wires, go through underpasses, the static was unbearable. When I was 30 miles from home there was practically no reception. The dealer said it was a bad radio which I could not swallow. The amplifier was the problem, it's been 2 years and now it started again. It's time for a redo. I tried a noise filter, didn't do a thing.

Did you buy an new window antenna amplifier? ...and this was the fix that only lasted 2 years? Do you recollect what Hyundai wants for an amplifier? BTW my FM reception has always been great also. My problem is my wife's favorite AM station won't come in for "poop" {20 miles/low on dial}. Bought vehicle new and reception was fine for years.

It's the connection that was loose due to crappy plugin connectors. There is no grab when the pins are pushed into the amp. My guess is that they have come loose again, so it's time to either plug them back in or fabricate new plugin pins that are a larger diameter and silicone them in.
