replacement tires |

I know this subject has been addressed a few times on the forum, but I can't find it. My question is, I will be needing to replace my oem tires on my 2006
Santa Fe. Tire selection for the 225/70r/16 are not many. However 235/70/16 are better. Can I use the 235's without having any adversed affect on my
vehicle such as tire rub or any other fitment problem?

Not sure where you've been looking but I found five pages' worth of tires that will fit the factory wheels. I hope this helps you.

Thanks lovemysantafe for your reply. I already checked out The Tire Rack. My thing is that I want to go to the dealer and have them install the tires from
their stock. I have had a few nightmares with having the tires sent to me or a parcipitating dealer. Either they were the wrong size or manufacturer or the
installer said he never got them or didn't know what happened to them. Most of the dealers around me don't stock the 225/70/16 tires. Maybe the only
tire they have in stock are the Long Trails in that size which I don't want. The dealers do stock 235/70/16 in many brands. I am concerned with the
fitment of the larger tires. Such as rubbing on turns or bottoming out when I hit a large bump. Fortunatly I have several weeks before I have to make my
decision.

We do not stock tires in general, the parts dept gets on-line with with a couple local tire vendors that we buy from.. Best to hit a vendor in your area and get the tire you want, and decide if you want the tire store to install, or carry them into the dealer for install.
Use the size tire that came on the car originally, if suspect, refer to the tire sticker in the door jamb or the owners manual for tire size applicable. |

I put the 235's on my 06 and had no problems at all......I bought the Goodyear Silent Armor from Tire Rack and they only had 235.

I am getting real close to getting the Continental CrossContact LX tires from Tire Rack and having them sent to a local installer. I have 78000 miles on the
originals (with a lot of tread left) but they are showing their age (2003 AWD LX). The Continental's seem to be getting very good reviews, so I'll give
them a try.

Well, I went to the local tire dealer and to my surprise, they matched Tire Rack's price. The only difference in total price was the state tax, but it
only came to about $30.00 so it was worth the hassle of ordering the tires, having them sent to the installer, blah, blah, blah!

Mults...I have a set of the CrossContact LXs. You'll love them. They're quiet, wear great, and have terrific rain traction.

At 170K miles on my '02 LX 4WD I'm on the second set of tires the Santy has ever seen. The original BFGs went 103K before I had a sidewall blowout
(lots of good tread left). Replaced them with the same tire but with a bit higher tread wear rating. Got 63K on them and I suspect the last tires the Santy
will ever see. While I admit there are probably other tires out there that make less noise, the OEM BFGs can't be beat for longevity.
I recall doing some research on tires several years ago and the 235 would work fine on the Santy...245s were iffy on the front and might have rubbed the struts in a bounce or turn. TG |

I replaced my original BF's at 118K miles with some tread left. I got a great deal on some Cooper Discoverer ATRs. They had a promo for a rebate of one
tire when you buy 4. I was skeptical at first but the first time I had them in the snow around here I was convinced that they were better than the originals. I
am also convinced that this is the last pair of tires the santy will see.
I think since it's balanced so well that the tire wear is increased no matter what brand you put on.

LMS...You are correct about the Continentals. I've only had them on for a few days and they are already superior to the original BFG's. So quiet and
smooth, almost as good as my wife's Sonata with the Michelins. Unfortunately, I didn't have them in time for the 6 inches of snow we got earlier this
week, so I'll have to wait to see how they handle the "deep stuff". In Cleveland, that can happen until the end of April!

mults wrote: Mults, Glad you're liking the new rubber. If you think they're great now, wait 'til you drive them in the rain!!! It's like having Velcro on your tires; opposed to the BFGs which I found to be terrible in the rain...sliding on low-speed turns and whatnot. I've already got 20,000 miles on the Conti's and they are wearing great. When these go, I'm ordering another set.
